Employment Benefits

  1. Medical and Dental Insurance -- The Medical Center provides medical and dental insurance coverage. Employees are responsible for paying the additional premiums required for family coverage. Coverage begins the first of the month following date of hire.
  2. Life Insurance -- The Medical Center pays the premium for a life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage which pays a death benefit equal to 125% of the employee's annual earnings. That amount is doubled in the event of an accidental death.
  3. Compensated Leave -- Employees begin accruing a yearly allotment of 17 days of paid time off which is used for such things as vacation, personal leave, and short-term absences due to illness. The annual accrual increases by 5 days following the completion of 3 continuous years of service, an additional 2 days after 7 years of service, an additional 2 days after 10 years of service, and an additional 1 day after 14 years of service. Employees also receive a yearly allotment of 5 days in an extended illness account. This account can be built to a maximum of 60 days and is to be used for absences due to illnesses and other medical conditions that exceed 3 days in duration. Employees are entitled to up to 3 days of funeral leave to be taken in the event of a death in the immediate family and 7 days in the event of the death of a spouse or child.
  4. Holidays -- Employees are paid for 6 holidays each year: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
  5. Profit Sharing -- Employees are eligible to enroll in the Medical Center Profit Sharing / Retirement Plan following the completion of one year of service. Once enrolled, employees are entitled to a profit sharing distribution each year provided they have worked at least 1,000 hours during the preceding calendar year. The Medical Center contributes a percentage of the employee's annual earnings as determined annually based upon Medical Center profits.
  6. 401K Savings Plan -- Employees, age 21 and older, are eligible to enroll in this plan upon hire. Employees can make voluntary contributions on a pre-tax basis of up to 50% of their annual earnings or $15,500, whichever is less.  Medical Center begins matching 50% of the employee contributions up to 3% of annual earnings on first of the following quarter after completing one year of service.
  7. Flexible Benefits Plan -- Employee contributions toward medical and dental insurance premiums are paid through this plan on a pre-tax basis. Employees can also establish dependent care expense and health care expense reimbursement accounts, which provide for payment of those expenses on a pre-tax and equal installment basis.
  8. Long Term Disability -- Employees are given the option of purchasing disability insurance at group rates by payroll deduction and on a pre or post-tax basis through the Flexible Benefits Plan.
  9. Wellness Program -- Employees are entitled to a $10 per month reimbursement toward the cost of fitness activities.
  10. Tuition Reimbursement -- Employees are entitled to receive reimbursement for 50% of the cost of tuition for classes, which are determined by the supervisor to be beneficial to the employee's job. This benefit has a $500 per year maximum.  All tuition, fees and books for Spanish related courses are reimbursed at 100%.  All coursework must be  preapproved by Personnel and there are minimum gradepoints required for reimbursement.  See Personnel for further information.
